Fans who have wanted a legitimate ebook version of popular titles such as Full Metal Alchemist or Black Butler haven’t really had a lot of luck, but that’s about to change. Square Enix and Yen Press are joining forces to put out some 175 of Square Enix’s manga series such as Soul Eater Not!, Black Butler and Full Metal Alchemist on major eBook retailers such as Amazon, Kobo, Nook and smartphones.
This will give both companies quick and easy reach access to some 200 countries worth of manga fans looking to legally pick up copies—but who might not have the space or access to physical versions.
The deal will see other titles such as Doubt and Judge by Yoshiki Tonogai appear in stores online, available for purchase, with a simultaneous release of the latest chapters for Soul Eater Not! and Secret come mid-April. For a current listing of titles and volumes, you can check out Yen Press’s list here.
Another noteworthy part of the deal is that Yen Press have secured color pages which will be reflected in the digital versions.
It seems more and more publishers are slowly moving online, with DeNA having climbed in with Manga Box and Kadokawa utilizing Comic Walker. We’ll keep an eye on how things go.
