Last year, Superbot Entertainment, the Sony-funded studio behind PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, laid off a number of its employees, following which Sony cut ties with the studio. In the wake of this event, a new indie studio has been formed, named Dead Alien Cult.
Dead Alien Cult consists of team members that worked on titles such as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, God of War III, WarHawk and Midway’s Cruis’n USA. The studio’s debut game is an “Arcade Action-Adventure-Dual Stick Shooter-Dungeon Crawl-Rogue-Like-Lite” titled Viking Ghost. You can view a trailer for the game above.
Here’s how the studios describes the game, which they say is inspired by games like The Legend of Zelda, Robotron, The Binding of Isaac and Spelunky:
In Viking Ghost you’ll be using many different weapons and special abilities to fight your way through waves of enemies, as well as each level’s Boss. In addition to combat, you’ll be solving simple puzzles to advance through certain areas. Viking Ghost also features a light upgrade system, where you can spend experience points gained during battle at the end of each level, to further improve attributes like speed, attack, defense, etc. You’ll also be able to spend coins on various items to help you along your way.
Viking Ghost is in development for PC, Mac and Linux. The game is also up on Steam Greenlight.
