Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released in Japanese arcades in April 2014, and the download versions of the game for North America and Europe will be released “shortly after” (but before EVO 2014), Capcom have announced.

Speaking to just why Ultra is taking so long to be released, Capcom say that they’ve been working hard to ensure that this is the most “openly influenced” version of Street Fighter IV yet, adding that over 20,000 comments from members of their Capcom Unity forums alone were perused while planning changes to the game.

In addition to new gameplay mechanics such as the Red Focus and Ultra Combo Double, new modes are being added to the game as well, although these haven’t been revealed yet. Finally, the team is also reviewing the five new characters in the game—four of which have been revealed so far—to ensure they work properly.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, following its arcade release in Japan. You can find location test details for the U.S here.
