I checked out Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate today which adds five new characters to the game. Momiji from the is an agile character with a double jump move which is one of her unique skills in the Ninja Gaiden series. She also has an attack where she catches an enemy in midair and throws them to the ground with a flip. In contrast to Momiji, Rachel is a power character, so she delivers damaging attacks, but is slow in comparison.
Ein and Leon both return for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, but they won’t be clones in this game. Yohei Shimbori, director of Dead or Alive 5 and Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, explained that they wanted to make the characters stand out. While Leon uses a similar style as in previous games, Ein is now a heavy character. Shimbori demoed that when Ein and Leon both throw a punch at the same time Leon will connect while Ein will not since Leon is faster. The two characters have different movesets and combos too.
Jacky from the Virtua Fighter series plays like… well Jacky. Shimbori said they didn’t want to change him around to much so Virtua Fighter fans can jump in and play as him.
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate adds a new technique for all players called the Power Launcher. You can use this attack when you lose 50% of your health and if it connects it sends your opponent flying upwards. This gives you a chance to juggle them for extra damage. The Power Blow is still in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, but you only get one power move per round. Players can choose whether to use the Power Blow (which is most useful for shoving other players into traps) or the Power Launcher (good for extending combos).
Shimbori confirmed to Siliconera that after revealing Rachel and Leon Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate’s roster has been fully announced.
