Precursor Games, the studio behind episodic horror game Shadow of the Eternals, have decided to temporarily end the game’s crowdfunding campaign and refund all of the funds accumulated to their respective contributors.
Shadow of the Eternals was pitched as a spiritual sequel to Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, a Gamecube game developed by Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo. It was being worked on by ex-Silicon Knights staff, and despite the best efforts of its developers, the crowdfunding campaign for the game failed to convince people to back it.
“Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for,” Precursor Games wrote in a notice on the Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter page.
“Along with this support has come a host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned. As a result, we have chosen to temporarily take down the Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding campaigns on both Kickstarter and our own website on Thursday, June 6.”
The Kickstarter campaign will be re-launched in “just a few short weeks” Precursor say, alongside the reveal of the aforementioned exciting new developments. Meanwhile, the game’s forums will remain open to allow fans to keep interacting with one another and contributing to the game.
