The Xbox One will not be able to play any Xbox 360 games, according to a Verge report. This is due to the architecture of the two consoles being significantly different from one another.

“The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn’t really work from that perspective,” Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox Live shared in an interview.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is in a similar situation—the device will not be backward compatible with PlayStation 3 games.
