Namco Bandai releases lots of downloadable decorative items for the Tales games and Soulcalibur, so why not try the same tactic with the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Storm series? CyberConnect2’s fighting game has paid costumes and what’s interesting is the price discrepancy between the West and Japan.

Five outfits (Anbu Kakashi, Road to Ninja Sasuke, Road to Ninja Hinata, Swimsuit Sakura, and Armored Naruto) were given out as a preorder bonus. All of the other costumes are 300 yen a piece. There are 24 paid DLC costumes which brings the total to 7,200 yen ($72). Add in the Akatsuki and Kage hats packs which are a 100 yen each and we have a grand total of 7,400 ($74) yen for Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 downloadable content. Ouch, that’s almost the same price as a copy of the game, which is 7,480 yen ($75) in Japan.

Namco Bandai was nicer to the West and bundled the costumes in packs. If you add up the price of the Swimsuit, Kage, Road to Ninja, Special Costume, School Uniform, Hello Kitty outfit for Sakura ($3 in both regions), and the two hat packs the grand total is $13. That’s a significant difference in cost and interesting to see how Namco Bandai scaled pricing back for the West.
