While some of Square Enix’s games didn’t live up to expectations, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D was a hit for the publisher. The 3D remake sold almost a million copies in Japan and was the fourth best selling game behind New Super Mario Bros. 2, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Pokémon Black & White 2. With sales numbers close to a million it makes sense to remake Dragon Quest Monsters 2. A trademark hints that Square Enix may be working on one too.
According to trademark_bot, Square Enix registered a trademark for Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key. Dragon Quest Monsters 2 was released as two games one with Luca (called Cobi in the West) and one with Iru (named Tara in the West). Both games also had the subtitle Malta’s Mysterious Key. It appears Square Enix is combining both Dragon Quest Monsters 2 games into one title. We’re guessing Dragon Quest Monsters: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key will be for 3DS since that’s where Terry’s Wonderland 3D showed up.
