Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey continues the story of Zoë Castillo, the protagonist introduced in the previous game, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. Chapters picks up where Dreamfall left off and brings an end to Zoë’s tale.

However, Zoë is only one of the two main characters the Longest Journey series is known for. The other is April Ryan.

Prior to Zoë being introduced to the story, the first game in the series, simply titled The Longest Journey, starred April as its main character. Whether or not April will return in Dreamfall Chapters has not yet been announced, but Red Thread Games say they have plans for a separate game devoted entirely to April.

This game is tentatively titled The Longest Journey Home, and will bring an end to April’s story as well. Speaking with GameSpot, The Longest Journey creator, Ragnar Tørnquist, shared that this game will be more akin to a 2D point-and-click adventure, as opposed to Dreamfall Chapters’ 3D adventure game design.

On their website, Red Thread Games also clarify a few details regarding The Longest Journey Home. For starters, pre-production on the game will begin if an when the Kickstarter campaign for Dreamfall Chapters reaches 2 million. While this isn’t likely to happen—the Kickstarter is currently at $1.18 million with five days to go—Red Thread are keen to develop The Longest Journey Home and say they’ll find other ways to fund it anyway, including using profits made off Dreamfall Chapters.

They elaborate: “Even if we do NOT get to $2 million on Kickstarter, the race is far from over, and hope is certainly not dead! We have a good while to go before Chapters is released, and we hope to keep raising money towards both the production of Chapters (improving the game every step of the way) AND towards The Longest Journey Home. And if that doesn’t get us where we need to be, we will definitely look at ways to raise money for TLJH at some point in the future—as including, of course, using any profits from Chapters towards the next game.”
