This past weekend, Capcom announced Street Fighter X Mega Man as part of the Mega Man series’ 25th anniversary celebration. Following the announcement, some of Capcom’s fans took to the company forums to ask if there would be “more substantial” things to come on the 25th anniversary front.

Shortly thereafter, Capcom USA Senior Vice-President, Christian Svensson replied to this query in a forum post of his own, as he often does.

“I don’t know that there’s more substantial [things] for me to talk about but there’s a TON more things we have in the works, only some of which will be shared on December 17th,” Svensson stated in his post.

“There’s a whole year of things that will happen… you’re only going to hear about what’s happening fairly close to the start of the celebrations at first.”

Presumably, part of the 25th anniversary celebration will involve the release of more classic Mega Man games on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. So far, only Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge for the Game Boy is available in the U.S. Meanwhile, Europe has the original NES Mega Man, with Mega Man 2 slated for release in Q1 2013. Japan, on the other hand, have Mega Man 1-6 on the 3DS Virtual Console.
