Hideo Kojima often says that he’d like to work on games that aren’t Metal Gear Solid, but inevitably ends up working on more Metal Gear games anyway. However, Kojima says to EGM, there is a definite upside to this.

“I’m often misinterpreted,” Kojima feels. “I’ve always said that I want to work on original properties, but Metal Gear offers plenty of benefits. The Fox Engine, for example, took a lot of time and money [to create]; we were only able to develop it because it was intended for the next Metal Gear.”

Kojima also adds: “In the next game, I’m introducing concepts intended for entirely new intellectual properties using the Metal Gear brand.”

Whether or not this “next game” that Kojima is referring to is Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes or another title is unknown. Kojima is working on a non-Metal Gear project, too, though—Project Ogre, which also uses the Fox Engine.
