Animal Crossing: New Leaf went on sale in Japan this past week. While we won’t know how well it sold until we see the weekly software sales chart next Wednesday, Japanese retail blog, Sinobi, is reporting a bit of early information.

New Leaf, Sinobi reports, initially started out with a shipment a little under 200,000 copies. However, Sinobi says, Nintendo increased the game’s first shipment while watching pre-orders, to the point that the game’s first shipment is now around 500,000 copies.

That’s a large first shipment, and people in Japan do seem interested in Animal Crossing, going by comments made by Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, so it should be interesting to see how it performs.

Iwata has also mentioned that Nintendo had to increase production of the Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS bundle, due to a high number of pre-orders.
