The Last Story director, Hironobu Sakaguchi, was very actively involved in the game’s promotion. Both in Japan and Europe, Sakaguchi personally went out to events where he discussed the game in front of a large audience, self-directed trailers for promotion, and even provided a considerable number of updates on the game via Twitter and Mistwalker’s website.

Unlike many of Sakaguchi’s prior games, The Last Story was published by Nintendo as opposed to Square Enix. Is there a difference between the two companies, and did Sakaguchi learn anything from these differences?

Speaking with CVG, Sakaguchi shares: “In terms of promotion, there were quite a few differences from what I had done in the past with Square, so I was able to learn lots from Nintendo. I really liked the approach of promoting the product without using fancy words or expressions and just telling it like it is, and so I came away with a very good impression.”

Additionally, Sakaguchi once again mentions that Mistwalker are working on three iOS games for the time being. When we asked Mistwalker if they are or would be working on games for more traditional game devices as well, they were cagey.
