Phantasy Star Online 2 producer, Satoshi Sakai, hinted at a surprise last week on the series official blog, and revealed today that this blog was indeed the PlayStation Vita version of the game.
There is a catch, however. In a new blog post discussing the PlayStation Vita version, Sakai mentions that you will only be able play it online. This is because your character data will be stored online on at the server end, and you’ll be able to play using your character either on PC or on Vita. This sets the game apart from the Phantasy Star Portable series.
The Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 is still early in development and is currently only 10% complete. Sakai explains that they plan to concentrate on getting the PC version out first. The PlayStation Vita version, which is being worked on by another team at present, won’t be released until sometime in 2013.
Sakai leaves us with two more morsels of information before signing off. One is the character art for costumes, which you see in this post. Sakai says these costumes might appear in the next test. However, you won’t find them in the character creator. Just how you’ll be able to use them remains to be seen.
The other bit of “info” is another tease. Sakai says that there will be more Phantasy Star-related surprises this month as well.
