Beyond the Labyrinth, a Nintendo 3DS dungeon crawler from tri-Ace and Konami, has a unique battle system which involves three different elements. You fight with four player characters and a mysterious girl who acts as your labyrinth guide.

She participates in battle and it’s your duty to protect her. You can select a character to absorb a blow by tapping their name on the touch screen. See the bar in the top left hand corner? That’s the girl’s HP meter. It’s a percentage because the amount of life she has remaining is tied to her Magic Strike attack.

Damage for this skill is calculated by multiplying her HP percentage times the Magic Strike number underneath her life bar. The Magic Strike parameter increases when the girl deals damage, but has a maximum amount of gain. So, if you want the girl to pack a punch you want her to hit enemies and your characters to absorb hits. Where’s Colossus when you need him? He’d be perfect for this game.
