Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday bash was across the street from E3 at a special Sega event called Sonic Boom. Sonic Generations director Takashi Iizuka announced at Club Nokia what we told you weeks ago, there will be a Sonic Generations demo. Later Jun Senoue, composer for may Sonic the Hedgehog games, took the stage and rocked out to Green Hill Zone with his band Crush 40.

The biggest surprise at the event? This.

That’s Yuji Naka, Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Naoto Oshima – the creators of the original Sonic the Hedgehog together – with… Sonic the Hedgehog. Seems like something natural, but the three founding members of Sonic Team left Sega years ago. Oshima formed Artoon, makers of Blinx: The Time Sweeper and Yoshi’s Island DS. Yasuhara used to work at Naughty Dog. Naka opened Prope, which is working on Rodea: The Sky Soldier.

Naka, Oshima, and Yasuhara finally, reunited with Sonic.

Iizuka and Senoue are on the left. Sonic’s generations are all up there.

Thanks to Kris for capturing the rare moment when Sonic’s past and future are on the same blue stage.
