When the Nintendo 3DS eShop launches, we’ll be able to download Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version, Excitebike with 3D visuals, and some Virtual Console games. Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, and TurboGrafx-16 games are confirmed for the service.
And it looks like Jaleco is getting a jump on the competition. Two of their spinach green Game Boy titles have been rerated as Nintendo 3DS games by the ESRB. Fortified Zone, an overhead Contra-ish game, and Amazing Spirit, a port of a quirky arcade platformer/action game.
In Japan and more recently with the iOS, Avenging Spirit is promoted with a cutesy ghost character. That’s actually you. The main character was killed by gangsters in the beginning of the game and now has the ability to possess others, which he uses to save his girlfriend.
Jaleco released Avenging Spirit in North America, but decided the ghost wasn’t the right way to market the game. So, they put a mobster firing a tommy gun on the cover of the Game Boy game.
No word on when these games will be released, but I’m inclined to believe sooner rather than later since both titles are already ESRB approved.
