Wii sales picked up dramatically during the 2010 holiday season, just like they do every year. They’re usually driven by a piece of flagship Nintendo software like Wii Fit or New Super Mario Bros. Wii. 2010 was the exception to this rule.
In 2010, Wii software sales during the holiday season were given a boost by an Ubisoft game. While Nintendo releases like Donkey Kong Country Returns performed admirably, Just Dance 2 outsold the game in November and December in the U.S., and was a significant driver of Wii software sales in both the U.S. and Europe.
In light of its performance, Nintendo are going to help localize and publish Just Dance 2 for Ubisoft in Japan. Company president, Satoru Iwata, believes the game was the most important Wii holiday release in 2010.
Just Dance 2 won’t be alone either. Nintendo are also publishing Activision’s Wii remake of GoldenEye in their home territory.
