Just yesterday, Capcom reported that they had shipped 2 million copies of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in the game’s first week of release, which is the highest shipment for any game in the series so far.
Today, we have more concrete sales numbers, courtesy of Famitsu. If Famitsu’s figures are accurate, Portable 3rd outsold its initial shipment in less than a whole week. The game now stands at 2,146,467 copies sold in a period of five days (Dec. 1st – 5th).
Portable 3rd’s release gave a significant boost to PSP sales in Japan, too. A total of 326,639 PSPs were sold during the week, setting a new weekly sales record for the system.
While no breakdown of models was provided, there’s no doubt the special edition Monster Hunter Portable 3rd PSP with a higher capacity battery and improved analog nub design was in part responsible.
Media-Create sales figures — which are what we usually refer to — for Portable 3rd and other recent game releases should be available tomorrow as per usual, so check back for how many monster hunters Zinogre devoured in an entire week.
