Game Informer magazine’s January issue will be revealing a new Tomb Raider game developed by Crystal Dynamics, publisher Square Enix revealed today. It would appear the game will simply be titled “Tomb Raider” and tells an origin story about series protagonist Lara Croft.
Previously, rumours claimed that the next Tomb Raider game would be set on a Japanese island, after Lara’s ship gets wrecked. It would appear there was at least some truth to these, as Square’s press release mentions a shipwreck:
“After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach,” Square’s PR reads. “On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive.”
It continues: “Here begins the first adventure for a young and inexperienced Lara Croft in a story which charts the journey of an ordinary woman who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive.”
“Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider,” said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio, Crystal Dynamics. “This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”
The Game Informer issue in question will go on newsstands on December 11th, and will feature a ten-page exclusive look at the game.
