Due To Fan Demand, Nomura Kept Vaan In Dissidia 012[duodecim]

Vaan almost didn’t make it into Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy. After several offers to Vaan’s original voice actor, Kouhei Takeda, conflicts with his agency prevented him from recording new lines. This is a bit odd since Takeda himself mentioned new voice work just last month. Nevertheless, Kensho Ono who voiced Chaos in Tsubasa Chronicle and Ko Ukumori in Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces was called in to do Vaan’s voiceovers.

Tetsuya Nomura wrote in a director’s message the development team thought about leaving Vaan out of Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy when they couldn’t get Takeda in the studio. Fan questionnaires made the team change their mind. According to those surveys there was strong demand to have Vaan in the game.

Square Enix, it appears, won’t have the same problem for the international release. Bobby Edner, Vaan’s voice actor from Final Fantasy XII, tweeted about recording new lines for Vaan months before the character was announced.
