While sales were down 12.9% from the preceding year, Marvelous is in the green with a 130 million yen ($1.7 million) profit for the first half of fiscal year 2010. It’s a modest sum, but a huge improvement compared to last year where Marvelous booked a 287 million ($3.21 million*) segment loss for their digital content business.

Marvelous published ten titles in Japan including Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Arc Rise Fantasia, Half-Minute Hero, and Little King’s Story during the same period in 2009. This year, Marvelous released only five boxed games for Japan: No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise, Ikki Tousen: Xross Impact, Hitman Reborn! DS Fate of Heat III, Harvest Moon: Twins’ Village, and Fate/Extra.

Harvest Moon: Twin’s Village sales sprouted past 160,000 units. Fate/Extra, a RPG based on the Fate Stay/Night series developed by Imageepoch, was another hot seller with more than 100,000 units sold. So far, neither Marvelous hit has been announced for North America.

* Editor’s note: This figure was calculated based on a 2009 yen to dollar exchange rate.
