Samurai Warriors Chronicle is being spearheaded by Hisashi Koinuma, the Producer of Samurai Warriors 3 and Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Revenge. While we mostly talked about Samurai Warriors 3‘s Mystery of Murasame Castle mode in our interview, we briefly touched on the Nintendo 3DS game.
"Currently we are working on Samurai Warriors Chronicle, a Samurai Warriors title for a portable console after a long absence. Along with the attractiveness of 3D graphics, we have added a number of new features," said Koniuma.
"One of the largest ones is the Hero Warrior. In traditional Samurai Warriors titles, players chose one historical warrior and followed what he or she had experienced. In Chronicles, players create a hero warrior as themselves to experience their own history, and getting to know, bonding with or fighting against other various warriors."
Samurai Warriors: Chronicle has two user created heroes and they’re the star of the Nintendo 3DS game. Another addition is the "change" system, which lets players switch between generals on the field.
"Players can choose up to four controlling characters and change who to control by touching the bottom screen. For example, if you are given a mission to defeat a warrior at the upper left of the field when you are at the bottom right, you can change the controlling warrior by touching the screen and easily fulfill the mission. It will add new elements of strategic fun that could never be experienced in traditional Warriors titles," Koniuma elaborated.
This sounds like a good idea. Running through empty battlefields just to get to another general was a drag in past Samurai Warriors games. Samurai Warriors Chronicle is slated for a spring release in Japan.
