Irem, makers of R-Type and known for elaborate April Fool’s Day pranks, just announced Semifinalist Fantasia is “on hold”. The never-been-announced-before MMMMUSO fantasy RPG where everyone has Pinocchio’s nose is being auctioned off. Disappointed fans can experience a one day beta on PlayStation Home today.

The description, trailer, and portal with a link to an anime series are a joke. The PlayStation Home bit sort of isn’t. Irem’s space in Japan has a Semifinalist Fantasia event.

You have to wonder how much energy Irem puts into these projects. So far, Irem released one game this year, a pachislot program for PS3. Imagine if all the time spent “making” Semifinalist Fantasia went into another project, say Disaster Report 4 or Steambot Chronicles 2.
