According to Konami’s fiscal year 3rd quarter presentation, Europe has been leading Konami’s sales between April and December for the past two years.
Konami sold 3.36 million games in North America compared to 6.73 million in Europe and 5.17 million games were sold in Japan during the nine month period. Pro Evolution Soccer has to account for at least part of the PAL surge. Konami reports 6.96 million soccer titles were sold worldwide between April and December.
“Other” was the biggest sales category for Konami after soccer. Then games based on animated TV shows, music/rhythm titles, and baseball. Last year, the top selling genres were soccer, other, Metal Gear, music, and then TV show games.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was on Konami’s books last year, which brought the Metal Gear category to 4.5 million sales. This year Metal Gear stuff only moved 650,000 units during the same period.
