Shuntaro Tanaka, Producer of Valkyria Chronicles 2, posted thoughts about bringing the series to the PSP on his blog. The main reason Valkyria switched platforms is Sega wants to expand the audience for the series. A survey found that 95% of people that played the first game (or 95% of the survey respondents) were men and the age group was higher than expected.
Developing next generation titles takes an enormous amount of money, Tanaka laments. He candidly says, PlayStation 3 hits like Yakuza and Metal Gear Solid grew their fanbase on the PlayStation 2. Since the PlayStation 2 isn’t a popular platform anymore Sega moved Valkyria Chronicles to the PSP.
However, Tanaka would like to bring Valkyria series back to the PS3. He says, “My personal dream vision is to develop Valkyria Chronicles for both PSP and PlayStation 3.”
