Square Enix has a successful collectable card arcade game in Japan called Lord of Vermillion. Players place cards on the machine to summon an allies in battle. A mix of fantasy staples like dwarves, dragons, and a few cameo characters are spread across seven arcana. Remember Lenneth and Freya from Valkyrie Profile? They’re in Lord of Vermillion.
Lord of Vermillion is almost a year old now. No plans have been announced for a home version, but a trademark suggests Square Enix could be working on one.
Lord of Arcana surfaced in the US Patent and Trademark database. Since the player character is the master of an arcana in Lord of Vermillion the title sounds like a good match. Why couldn’t this be the name of an arcade sequel? The description for Lord of Arcana states the term is for use with “video game software” and “guidebooks”, not “arcade-type stand alone video game machines” like the Lord of Vermillion trademark.
Hmm… Lord of Arcana could work on the Nintendo DSi since the camera could be used to identify physical cards.
