Sony Pushing PSP With LittleBigPlanet And Petz

Things are looking up for the PSP after a list of game announcements came out from Destination PlayStation. Sony will scale down key first party PlayStation 3 franchises to make MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and LittleBigPlanet for PSP. Both games are scheduled for release this fall.

Third party developers Disney Interactive and Ubisoft will help SCEA tackle their goal of marketing the PSP to teen and tween girl gamers by releasing a Hannah Montana dancing/rhythm action game and the Petz series respectively. You may not be jumping out your chair for Petz, but a broader appeal could lead to more publisher support and eventually more PSP games. Other Western developed games include Rock Band: Unplugged, Assassin’s Creed, and the usual line up of EA Sports stuff. Rock Band: Unplugged will get its own store too ushering in a surge in downloadable content which starts this week with the Idolm@ster SP.

The extra PSP support will keep the PlayStation 2 chugging along too. SCEA will also publish MotorStorm: Arctic Edge for the PS2 this fall which means the last PlayStation 2 game is far into the horizon of 2010.
