White Knight Chronicles is actually two types of RPGs on one disc. In the single player story mode you control Leonard, a hero with the power to transform Power Rangers style into a the massive White Knight. You also get to make an avatar which acts as an accessory character in the single player story. The avatar gets the spotlight in live play mode where you can go online and battle giant monsters. Since your avatar isn’t imbued with the power to go giant you have to team up with others to crush huge monsters.
In this demonstration a group of players link up to fight a Troll, but they don’t have a full party at first. The trio send a message to someone playing the story mode to come and join them to make a full group. During the fight you can see the monstrous Troll has different points to hit. During the White Knight Chronicles presentation at TGS a representative from Sony explained hitting the right points is the key to taking down giant monsters as tiny avatars.
