Post Genji: Days of the Blade and Folklore Game Republic has been making PlayStation Network games like Dark Mist. On the side Game Republic started making original flash board games too. Their two projects are coming together this year starting with the PlayStation Network release of Catan. I know Xbox 360 owners saw Catan last year, but Catan will be “new” for PSN on December 18 with free online play for up to four players and a link to PlayStation Home. Catan’s release isn’t just for Japan. Game Republic’s press release clearly confirms it will come out in North America, Europe and Japan on the same day.
What’s more interesting is Game Republic, ahem Board Game Republic, has a line up of digitally distributed board games. Shadow Hunters (pictured), a board and card game, comes out in March with online play for eight. Later in the year Owner’s Choice and the Halloween themed Trick & Treat will also get released. However, these three games are likely to appear on more consoles than just the PlayStation 3. All of Game Republic’s original games are listed as “multiplatform” under the hardware category. So, we could see Game Republic’s board games on Xbox Live Arcade and/or WiiWare next year. Digital board games are an interesting direction for Game Republic, but I’m cautiously optimistic. Remember Every Party? Yeah, that was from Game Republic too.
