Virtual Console releases dwindle in Japan too

Nintendo of America went used to release three or four Virtual Console games a week. Since WIiWare launched we get one or two since. While it’s great to get a steady stream of new content for the Wii, Nintendo is shifting their focus away from the past and towards the future.

The Virtual Console drought is hitting Japan too where only ten games will be released this month. Mega Man 2 is sort of a highlight since they didn’t get Mega Man: Anniversary Collection. Parasol Stars is a quality game, but it’s questionable if we will see this TurboGrafx-16 game in North America since it was translated by the now closed Working Designs. Street Fighter II: Championship Edition and Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System are superfluous. Street Fighter II: Turbo and Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) have been on the Virtual Console for quite some time now.

Here’s Japan’s dismal release schedule. Games marked with an asterisk are coming out on July 29.
