QBasic sent in some detective work (thanks!!!) and sent in a list of five new trademarks from Square-Enix:
– The World Ends With You
– Crystal Tools
– Distant Worlds
– Lord of Vermillion
– Play! Chocobo
I’m pretty sure Distant Worlds is related to the upcoming Final Fantasy Concert of the same name. Plus the trademark is only related to music and merchandise, not games, so it’s probably is for the concert.
Play! Chocobo has something to do with merchandise and games. This could be a hint that Square-Enix is evaluating its suite or Chocobo cell phone games or they are thinking about giving all their Chocobo products an umbrella brand sort of like Smile Slime in Japan.
Crystal Tools is for games only. Perhaps that has something to do with the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Wii Ware game? I’m stumped on Lord of Vermillion, but I doubt it has anything do with the old Sega Genesis game. QBasic wisely suggests that The World Ends With You may be the US name for Subarashiki Kono Sekai (It’s a Wonderful World). I say he makes a good point. After all It’s a Wonderful World sounds a bit like the Wonderful World of Disney…
I did a little extra scouting to and found out that Square-Enix also has the following trademarks:
The 3rd Birthday – related to the Parasite Eve mobile phone game
Grimoire of the Rift – possibly related to Final Fantasy Tactics A2
First Departure – a hint that the Star Ocean remakes are coming over?
Second Evolution
Before you get your hopes up a trademark does not gurantee a release. Square-Enix trademarked Code Age Commanders and Code Age Brawlers, but neither of those were ever localized for North America.
